Oya Takashi brewery is a long-established brewery founded in 1830 in Aikawa-cho, a naturally beautiful and rural area of Kanagawa prefecture. The brewery is marked by 2 ancient Zelkova trees, with an estimated age of 450 years. These trees, still alive and flourishing, are a symbol of the preserved nature and history of the area. Oya-Takashi’s mascot is an adorable 11 year old wise Shiba Inu named Toki, who watches over the brewery and the brewers as they work to make their innovative sake.
Now operating under its 8th generation of Kuramoto, the brewery has 2 well established brands, "Zaruso Hourai" and "Shoryu Hourai".
The Zaruso Hourai brand represents sake made in the Sokujo brewing method in which lactic acid is added to the yeast starter, a more modern and consistently used method of brewing. This brand includes the Queen, a full flavoured genshu, yet slightly lower alcohol, that has become a favorite amongst younger sake fans who want something that does not make them so easily intoxicated.
