Nara is home to many sake traditions. In this region, sake and religion are tightly intertwined, and its consumption was thought to be a portal to commuting with god.
The Oomiwa shrine, considered the oldest shrine in the country, is also where the brewing prayer festival is celebrated on November 14th of each year, where Toji, brewers and tourists gather to pray and from this shrine, Sugidama are distributed to breweries all over the country to commemorate the brewing season.
